Here at Phoenix Self Storage, we empathize with the potential stress that can accompany the process of renting a storage space. Recognizing that moving house or office can be a challenging time, we strive to ease your experience.

To further assist you, we have curated a comprehensive list of storage solutions and practical packing tips. Our goal is to alleviate the pressure associated with the transition and ensure a smoother, more organized storage experience for our valued clients and customers.

Packing advice and tips

Fragile china and glass should be packed carefully to avoid breakages. Wrap each item individually and put plates and bowls on their sides. Label as fragile, and do not stack under heavier boxes.

Clothing and linen should be cleaned and dried before storage to prevent mould. Items can then be placed neatly in boxes, drawers or hung in a wardrobe carton.

Defrost, clean and dry fridges and freezers. Make sure to keep them stored with doors slightly ajar. Empty washing machines of all water. Cookers should be thoroughly cleaned to stop mould, and that way you can use the space inside for storage too.

Papers can be stored in file boxes, and books can be flat packed into boxes. Fill any empty space with paper to prevent movement.

Smaller items should be packed in boxes. Boxes should always be filled as this will make stacking them much easier. Part-full boxes may collapse, so fill any spaces in boxes with packing material.

Larger items of furniture should be disassembled if possible. Make sure all loose parts are safely stored in small bags and labelled.

Storage tips

Lay down plastic, cloth or cardboard sheets on the floor to protect sofas, mattresses and other furniture.

Store items you may want to use at the front of the unit near the door.

Cover all furniture, sofas and mattresses. Wrap table legs in paper to prevent scratching before turning the table upside down to stack items on top.

Leave a small aisle from the door to the back of the unit so that items are accessible and make sure that goods are stacked a few inches away from the walls to allow air to circulate.
